Best Time to Trek: The best seasons for this trek are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). In spring, blooming rhododendrons abound, and in fall, clear views of the mountains are afforded. Winter is doable but very cold, while the monsoon (June-August) brings torrential rain and leeches.
Level of Fitness Required: This is a moderate-to-challenging trek. You are decent, in shape, and capable of walking 5-7 hours a day on mountain trails. Some high-altitude experience is recommended but not required.
Altitude Sickness: The valley climbs to over 4,600 meters, so watch out for altitude sickness. Climb slowly, hydrate, and pay attention to your body. If you are unwell, please let your guide know immediately.
Lodging: Along the way, you'll stay in modest teahouses. Rooms are basic, with twin beds and communal bathrooms. Don't look for luxury, but for warm, heartfelt hospitality!
Food: Dal bhat (rice and lentils) is the meal of choice, and I would thoroughly recommend it -free refills of rice! Other alternatives include noodles and pasta, soups, and pancakes. The higher you ascend, the more expensive food becomes.
Packing List: Layered clothing, trekking boots, sleeping bag (which can be rented in Kathmandu), water purification tablets, suncream, and personal medical requirements. A packing list will be provided after booking.
Electricity and Charging: There is electricity in the majority of teahouses, though charging your gadgets will incur an additional cost ($2-3 per hour). Bring power banks!
Internet and Phone: Most villages offer WiFi access for a fee, but it is not high-speed. You can get phone signals in the lower areas, but it gets worse as you go higher.
Permits: You must have a Langtang National Park permit and a TIMS card. These can be booked for you by your trek operator.
Sensitivity to Culture: You will travel through Buddhist and Hindu areas. Cover up, request permission to photograph people, and always walk clockwise around Buddhist monasteries and stupas.
