Pikey Peak a short but exhilarating trek that allows you to view some of the highest mountains in the world, including Everest, as well as to experience Sherpa culture in a short span of time. Your adventure begins with an 8-10 hour scenic drive from Kathmandu to Dhap Bazaar. The drive offers glimpses of rural lives, small villages, terraced fields, and majestic hills and rivers. As you move further from Kathmandu, the landscape gradually becomes more mountainous. The following day you will hike from Dhap Bazaar to Jhapre, from where Pikey Peak is just about a 7 hours trek. After a restful night at Jhapre, you will begin your ascent to Pikey Base Camp the next day. This is a gradual ascent, passing through pine and rhododendron forests. If the day is clear, you will see various mountains, including Everest. Along the way, you’ll encounter small Sherpa villages, where you can stop for a break, enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, and learn more about the local culture. Upon reaching Pikey Base Camp, you will be treated to stunning panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, including Mount Everest in the distance. The camp itself is relatively simple but offers a great setting for a peaceful night under the stars.
The following day you hike to the summit of Pikey Peak (4065 meters). You will leave early in the morning to catch the sunrise. The views from the summit are nothing short of breathtaking, with panoramic views of some of the highest peaks in the Himalayas, including Mount Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu. After spending some time at the summit, you will descent to Jasmane Bhanjyang. The following day, you will trek to Junbesi, a peaceful Sherpa village with a monastery. Here you will rest for a day. You will get to visit the famous Thuptenchholing Monastery as well as hike to another view point from where you can see Everest. As your trek comes to a close, you will arrive at another popular Sherpa village, Phaplu, which has a small airport from where you can directly fly in and out of Kathmandu. After that, you will return to Kathmandu following the same route unless stated otherwise in your itinerary.
Note: You can also take a direct flight to Phaplu.
